Digital Fabric Interoperability Workstream

Our Mission Statement:
Our mission is to create interoperability of digital fabrics across 3D software solutions, so that fabrics can be measured once and used everywhere. We support the ASTM Standard Test Method for 3D Fabric Physics Drape Validation industry group, and work to recommend digital tolerances and translate fabric data into garment guidance for brands and retailers. And as the industry evolves, we’re exploring the next frontier: 3D fit and AI physics.

Our Objectives:

  • To build confidence in 3D fabric physics through industry standards that ensure consistent, reliable, and accurate results
  • To drive industry alignment, increasing consistency, speed, and efficiency across suppliers, brands, and retailers
  • To digitize the supply chain and expand digital workflows
  • To lay the foundation for expanded material standards and future AI-driven fabric physics

Our 2026/2027 Priorities
Continued support of the ASTM 3D Drape Validation Standard:

Q3 2026: Support 3D Drape Validation through round robin testing and feedback
Q4 2026: Define recommended digital tolerances and begin exploring AI physics
Q1 2027: Explore how the digital standard relates to garment fit, in collaboration with the 3D FIT initiative


The 3DRC Joins Effort with ASTM to Establish Global Standard for 3D Digital Fabric Drape Validation

The 3DRC has begun work with ASTM International to help create the industry’s first empirical testing standard for digital fabric drape validation, in an effort to increase digital confidence. Read more >
